Living full-time in an RV is an adventure, and for those who adore plants like my wife, it presents a unique set of challenges. In our quest to create a cozy home on wheels for her beloved plants, embarked on a DIY journey to install a drop shelf made of lightweight poplar wood.
Ensuring that our RV space was both aesthetically pleasing and conducive to plant growth was of utmost importance to me. I made an effort to ensure that it was seamlessly integrated into our interior decor by utilizing a dark wood stain to match existing woodwork, ensuring it looked like a natural addition to our RV. The end result was not only a visually pleasing enhancement but also a functional space where our plant companions thrived.

This drop shelf not only supports her thriving jade, aloe, and snake plants but also serves as a practical solution for stowing away on moving days, thanks to the convenient drop shelf brackets. Safety was a top priority, so I rounded the front edges to prevent accidents. To maintain a cohesive look with our RV’s aesthetics, I stained the shelf with a dark hue matching the interior’s woodwork. Additionally, I applied four coats of polyurethane to protect the wood from water damage, given its strategic placement under the bathroom window for maximum sunlight exposure. Placing the shelf in the bathroom under the window allows her plants to thrive in well-lit conditions, while the use of drop shelf brackets grants us the convenience of easily stowing it away when needed.

Whether you’re a full-time RVer or simply a plant enthusiast, this DIY drop shelf project is a rewarding addition to your mobile home on wheels, offering both aesthetic appeal and practicality to enhance your RV living experience. Happy crafting and
safe travels!
